WEEK 4: The get fit club

Focus on the same book throughout the whole week. Each day at the beginning of the Phonics sessions, the children need to repeat the following instructions. Continually practicing the sounds, green/red words and reading the book will help them build fluency and pace:

  • Practice the Set 1 and Set 2 sounds using the links at the top of the page
  • Practice reading the 'Speed Sounds' that are circled (these are sounds used in the book)
  • Practice reading all the 'Speedy Green Words'
  • Practice reading all the 'Story Green Words'
  • Practice reading all the 'Red Words'
  • Read the story introduction, then the story

When you've done these steps, work your way through the remaining instructions - these need to be completed just once - pick up where you left off the previous day until you've done them all:

  1. Have a go at answering the questions on page 14
  2. Hold a sentence 1: Without looking, independently write the sentence 'Skip and do a back flip.' Say the sentence to yourself lots of times to help you remember (Don't forget capital letters, finger spaces and full stops, try to join your handwriting and use your Fred fingers to help you sound out).
  3. Tick or Fix - check your work with a different colour (if you have one of the school's packs the children  normally use their 'Purple Polishing Pen')
  4. Hold a sentence 2: 'Bend and do a hand stand.' (follow same as previous instruction)
  5. Tick or Fix your work (same as step 3)
