Orchard Primary & Pre-School
"Small enough to care, Big enough to inspire"
As a school we are working really hard to make sure that, although the children are not in school, they are
still accessing a quality curriculum. We appreciate that home learning has many challenges and this page is intended to provide information for pupils and parents/carers about remote learning provision while national or local restrictions require pupils to remain at home.
We will do our best to make it as easy as possible for the children to access the curriculum, but we do need all the children to engage with their learning.
Please click on this link to access the Video Centre where you will find videos of activities and guidance on how to approach tasks.
Please click on this link to access your child's Class Blog page; this is where we will communicate with you. You can access your class blog and post questions or comments you have about the activities you are completing.
In order to access the blog and communicate with your teacher you will require your child's blogging username and password which your teacher will have given you.
How long can I expect work set by school to take my child each day?
The government expects all children to do a minimum of 3 hours school work each school day.
How do we access any online remote education you are providing?
All online learning is posted on the class blog page each day. This can be accessed by clicking on the Home Learning tab on each class page.
The blog page will take you to video links, work sheets, Purple Mash, TT Rockstars, NumBots and Oxford Owl. You will also find links to the class Zoom sessions where your child will be able to interact with their teacher and class friends.
Below you will find information about how to use Purple Mash; the children already have their user name and password in their reading or homework diaries.
If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access home learning?
If requested, school will print out all the resources that the children need for the week and the packs can be collected from school. We will also phone the child each day to go through the work that they need to complete where necessary. In some circumstances, where it is safe, your child will be invited into school.
All work should be delivered to school by post or hand each week.
If you do not have any technology at home please contact the school office as soon as possible so that we can plan something different for your child.
We are currently awaiting the delivery of a small amount of laptops that can be loaned out to families on a rota system (please contact the school office for further information).
How will my child be taught remotely?
Different year groups will have different approaches but all links are accessed via the class blog.
Paper-based resources can be collected from the office weekly; the class teacher will let you know when these are ready to be collected.
On some days we will also be adding links to SCARF (part of our PSHE curriculum), Charanga for music and
Commando Joe who have developed some great adventures for you to do as a family.

What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?
We expect the children to log on to the blog each day and complete the core activities. We have included audio instructions and video clips to support their understanding. If they are having difficulties, please contact their class teacher via the class email, through the blog or phone school so that their teacher, Mrs Bitcon or Mrs Hartley can support them. The children need to upload their work or photographs of their work to Purple Mash each day.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
The class teacher will check the blog, email and Purple Mash daily and give the children feedback. If the children are not uploading work or communicating via the blog or email, parents/carers will be contacted via telephone by either their class teacher, Mrs Bitcon, Mrs Hartley or Mrs Robley-Dixon to discuss any issues or concerns.
How will you assess my child’s work?
All work uploaded to Purple Mash will be assessed and the children will be given feedback. The teachers will also monitor MyMaths and TT Rockstars.
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote learning?
This will be done on an individual basis through contact with the class teacher, class TA, Mrs Bitcon and Mrs Hartley.
