Week 3. As part of our Science topic this term, we conducted an experiment which proves that light travels in straight lines. We worked collaboratively in our groups and discussed our results and what it told us about light travels. Then using this knowledge, we labelled some diagrams using light rays and described how a periscope works using mirrors.
In Art, we used iPads to experiment with macrophotography. Firstly, of fruits and vegetables, which we edited to create a black and white image, and then using photographs of instruments, we created an album cover.
Week 2 in Year 6 has been very busy! We have been exploring the weather, climate, wildlife and people that live in different parts of Brazil in Geography. We used the internet to research and present our findings, alongside drawings and photographs. We have continued to share and discuss our book, 'Journey to the River Sea' by Eva Ibbotson, in Reading. Our developing knowledge of Brazil has helped us to understand the new life Maia finds herself in, living a thousand miles up the Amazon River.
In Design and Technology, we have continued to use tools to measure, cut and stick our carousel components together safely and in Art we continued to look at the artist Hannah Hoch, discussing our opinions on her work and exploring her style.
Welcome back and Happy New Year 2026! We have started lots of new topics in school this week: In PE the Year 6's began their Gymnastics unit. They used the mats to create shapes and balances on our own and in groups.
We also started our new project in Art - Photography. Today's introductory lesson was based around the work of Hannah Hoch's photomontages. The children were given the design brief of creating a poster to advertise a section of a city department store. They used images of products from their section to create a cityscape. Keep a look out for more exciting projects!
