Sports Council Meeting - 18.11.21
Meeting with sports council reps from Y2, Y3, Y4, Y6
In our first meeting since lockdown, we discussed our learning so far in PE during the Autumn Term and what skills we had been practicing. Y2 reps talked about the skill of dribbling and which part of the foot to use when kicking a ball. Y3 reps talked about balancing on different levels and what makes a good balance. Y4 reps talked about their tag rugby and working in groups to have a go at dance sequences. Y6 reps talked to us about their control and fluency with ball skills, using the new equipment. During the meeting we also talked about what clubs we would like to hopefully happen in the Spring term including (dance, badminton, gymnastics, football, netball and the potential for athletics in the summer).
Council reps also talked about how they would like to participate again in competitive sports within the academy and against other local schools. We then shared with them, the planned events for academy trust sports and events across the year.
We finally spoke about how we could make the Y4/5 outdoor area more attractive and council reps were going to go back and find out more suggestions from their classes about what they would like to see – one suggestion we had was a badminton or table tennis area.
Sport Relief 2020
Everyone in school dressed up in their sporty gear for Sport Relief, in exchange for a small donation for the charity. Year 3 had a Mission Impossible style PE session on the Friday and the Sports Council collated and counted the money; we raised over £154.90 for the charity!
Sports Council Meeting - 17th October 2019
Class Representatives from Y1, Y3, Y4 and Y5 attended the meeting with Miss Mabbott and we discussed potential sports club ideas for Winter and Spring/Summer. The suggestions for Winter sports clubs were football, benchball, dance and gymnastics. The suggestions for Summer sports clubs were football, basketball, rounders, netball and tennis. The Y4/5 children also spoke about the possibility of doing Bikeability to encourage a love of cycling but to also reduce pollution when coming to and from school. We also talked about needing a new school competition sports kit for the older children for football and netball and discussed maybe considering fundraising events to fund this.
