Week 3. In Maths we have been calculating the volume of cubes and cuboids. We began finding volume practically using multi-link cubes and then we used this understanding to calculate a variety of different volumes.
Week 2 has started with a very exciting Science lesson. We made a representative model of blood using cheerios, mini marshmallows and food colouring. We used water and yellow food colouring to act as the plasma, cheerios for the red blood cells and mini marshmallows as white blood cells.
This was followed by a forensic workshop where we learnt about DNA, fingerprints, shoe imprints and looking for clues. Then we had to solve the mystery of the stolen money. We were all amazing and used the clues well to find the correct suspect!
And on Thursday we celebrated World Book Day in school. Year 6 were dressed as explorers and spent the morning exploring the picture book 'The Viewer' by Gary Crew and Shaun Tan. We studied the illustrations carefully because there were so many clues to the story that we couldn't find in the text. During the afternoon, some children chose to predict the future by creating a final slide of pictures for 'The Viewer'. Other children made their own Reading Journals to keep track of their favourite books. Great outfits Year 6!
We have dived straight back into hard work in Year 6 this week after our half-term break! A new Science topic studying the circulatory system and in History we have begun to look at medieval medicine in our topic Plague, Pox and Antibiotics! We have also spent some time completing our photo realism portraits in Art and continued to work on the structure of our carousels in Design and Technology. Some students have also begun the decorative details and there was a wonderful feeling of collaborative working in class, with students supporting and assisting their classmates. Finally, we finished our week tweaking the details on our website designs for our new ventures on Pershore High Street in Computing. A super start back Year 6, well done!
