Emergency School Closure

Decisions to close the school are not taken lightly.  The school will be kept open for as long as is reasonable.  The main consideration in these situations is always the health and safety of the pupils and staff.

In the rare event of school having to close before 3.15pm, eg adverse weather conditions, loss of water or power, parents will be informed by the text messaging service or phone.  If you are unable to access text messages while you are at work, please make the school office aware in writing, and we will endeavour to contact you by telephone.

More commonly, weather conditions deteriorate overnight, causing uncertainty about whether school will be open in the morning.  In the event of school being closed for the day, a text message will be sent to all parents as soon as is practicable.

A message will also be displayed on the school website.  In addition to this, once Worcestershire County Council has been informed, they will inform the local radio stations.  Normally, these stations broadcast information on school closures at regular intervals as information is received from around the County.

It would help us if you could:

  • Ensure you keep us up-to-date with any changes in mobile or contact phone numbers and ensure you keep the phone with you during periods of bad weather.
  • Inform the school office, in writing, of a number to contact in the case of an emergency school closure if you are unable to keep your phone with you at work.
  • Inform us by telephone if your child is to travel home with someone else. We are not able to release your children to adults other than those to whom you have already given permission to collect from school.
