  • Curriculum Intent

At Orchard Primary, it is our intent to create a climate of possibility that celebrates diversity, sparks curiosity and breeds creativity and resilience.

Our curriculum not only fulfils the requirements of the National Curriculum but is designed to ensure that it develops the whole child and that all children have full access. Each topic is underpinned by key skills and personal attitudes and designed to enthuse children, providing them with hands-on and real experiences, which develop their language skills and deepen their understanding of the world and prepares them for their future.

Through the teaching of KEY SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE we want our children to become:

    ENGLISH

Fluent, passionate readers who develop a rich vocabulary enabling them to become articulate speakers and resourceful and entertaining writers. Through meaningful and real life opportunities we strive to bring stories and experiences to life for our children to enable to them to imagine and write creatively. We aim to embed a love for reading by making reading a priority from early years.

    MATHS

Fluent in the fundamentals of maths, know how to and can confidently apply key skills and reason mathematically.

It is essential that all children have a secure and confident grasp and can apply age-appropriate key skills and mathematical vocabulary which allows them to access a deeper understanding and make links between areas of maths, applying their mathematical knowledge to science and other subjects.

Give them an age-appropriate understanding of British and World News.

Current affairs include matters of political importance such as Brexit, who is our Prime Minister; propaganda and fake news.

    TECHNOLOGY/COMPUTING

They are excited and intrigued by science, through varied activities and investigations, broadening the children's scientific view of, and respect for, the world around them, whilst promoting a love for enquiry and a desire for exploring new things.

They are equipped and have embedded a set of skills within computing so that they can successfully utilise technology throughout their education and into future careers. By obtaining these skills, the children will responsibly use a multiple of technologies to support, extend and present their learning across all areas of the curriculum.
