Our Class Teachers in Year 5 are Mrs Edwards (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and Mrs White (Friday) with the class being supported by Mrs Marks.
The adults in Year 5 are available to chat and answer your questions before registration each morning and at the end of the school day. However, if you feel you need more time to talk, please feel free to make an appointment - face to face or virtual meetings can be arranged by contacting the School Office.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support - The Year 5 Team :)
We will be continuing to use MarvellousMe to keep you informed of your child's learning and achievements in school. If you have any questions or would like help with accessing the app, then please do not hesitate to ask.
All children are expected to read regularly (at least 4 times a week) and keep an up-to-date record in their ‘School Planner'. Planners will be collected every Wednesday to be checked by the teaching staff.
We will be using Oxford Owl's 'Get Spelling' programme across KS2. Children will keep a personal log of spellings which they can take home to revise. There will be a spelling test every Monday.
We will be giving the children weekly tasks to be completed throughout the week. This will include a range of different activities to support your child's learning in school. Maths and SPAG homework will be given out and collected each Monday. Homework is also set on MyMaths and a hard copy will be provided for children who do not have access to online systems.
In addition, children will receive a topic overview of extra activities they can complete linking to our topics that half-term. House points will be given for these tasks, and we would love to share your hard work with the rest of your class as and when this is completed.
This half-term Year 5 will be revisiting their times-tables, up to 12 x 12. We really appreciate your support and encouragement of this as it is important that the children revisit these regularly at home as well as in school. Please use the following link to our Maths Fluency page, which has lots of great links and games to help: https://www.orchardprimary.org.uk/times-tables/
This half-term, our PE lesson will be on a Wednesday. Please can we remind you that full PE kits, with suitable footwear, should always be in school and can be kept on the children’s pegs. Please also ensure that all school uniform and PE kits are clearly labelled.
All children need to bring a named water bottle to school each day please.
Every Friday the children will have cornet lessons provided by SevernArts. Cornets can be taken home to practice but need to be in school every week for the lesson.
A big focus this year will be learning how to stay safe online. Important information and updates will be sent home where necessary; the following websites also have lots of information:
We use the child-friendly search engine 'Kiddle' when carrying out research in school and recommend that children do the same when they are online at home (link below). Please make sure you supervise your child while they are online and do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
