Week 1: We started our exciting Ancient Greek topic. The children dressed up as Ancient Greeks and explored mystery boxes to investigate ŮWhat was life in Ancient Greece like?Ů
Week 2: This week in writing, we were exploring The Golden Key story linked to our topic. We looked at setting description and how we could upgrade our descriptive sentences.
Week 3: This week the children began learning to play the keyboard!
This week, Year 5 were invited to The Abbey. We were introduced to four scientists who explored the concept of God and the big bang. The children completed three interactive workshops to explore how religion and science can coincide. Overall, it was a lovely day and the children particularly enjoyed the practical activities.
This week in DT, the children began to use a technique called Batiking. They have been designing a Greek-inspired pattern to go onto a tote bag.
This week the children have been researching a holiday destination in Greece. They worked in small groups and created a presentation to persuade the rest of the children to visit their destination.
This week we explored Ancient Greek Myths, particularly Pandora's box. The children participated in a conscious alley exercise where they persuaded Pandora to either open the box, or keep it shut.
They also participated in a PHSE workshop around making the right choices.
This week the children have been creating arrays with maths cubes to look at different representations of multiplication.
We also used drama to support us with our writing. The children created freeze frames based on different vocabulary word cards.
This week the children reflected on the meaning behind Remembrance. We created a class poppy and wrote messages to thank everyone who contributed towards allowing us to live in a safe place.
We also raised money for Children in Need. The children joined in with the rest of the school to take part in Joe Wicks Get Moving Live stream. We moved our bodies and even had a dance off!
This week we were very lucky to be invited down to No.8 to watch How to train your dragon as part of the Into Film Festival!
This week, Year 5 and Year 6 went on an amazing trip to Birmingham to visit the ThinkTank. We explored the human body, space, inventions throughout time and evolution. Last week we explored a city in Austria to find out why people may visit. To compare it to our local area, we took a lovely walk around Pershore to explore what there is to do.
We have also been busy practising our singing ready for The Abbey performance in a few weeks time!
This week we were extremely lucky to visit The RSC to watch The BFG. The children were praised for their excellent behaviour and expressed how much they enjoyed it.
The children have also begun to use a sewing machine to sew their tote bags.
This week the children have been busy making space mobiles to support their learning of the Solar System!
We also have been playing Christmas songs such as Deck the Halls and Jingle bells on the keyboards.
In our writing we have been getting ready to write our Non-Chronological Report on an Arctic animal.
This week has been all things Christmas!
We started our week with an amazing performance at The Abbey. We were very proud of the children's singing and dancing!
We also had a Christmas fun day planned by the friends, which the children loved.
This week in Science we have been investigating materials. We used the magnets to explore which materials would attract and which were non-magnetic.
This week we also have appointed a new vice-captain for Cherry House!
This week we have been investigating materials. We conducted an experiment to test whether a material was a conductor or an insulator.
We also continued learning about the planets in French!
We had a class debate practising our oracy skills on the statement: "Children should have to go to work."
This week we have been investigating thermal insulators. We tested which material would keep our cup of tea warm the longest.
We also used rods in Maths to investigate and identify fractions.
This week we had an alien slime explosion in our classroom. We interviewed members of staff to investigate what might have happened the previous night.
The children came up with different questions to ask members of staff. They then took the role of either a camera person, an interviewer or a note taker.
We also were very lucky to have a history workshop all about The Vikings, where the children got to dress up, play old Viking games and practice their sword fighting skills!
