Art at Orchard Primary
A progression of technical skills is taught across all year groups within three main fields of fine art: painting, drawing and sculpture. As pupils progress through school, they also continuously refine their ability to describe, analyse, interpret and evaluate artwork, as well as form and articulate opinions on both their own work and that of others. They gain an abundance of artist knowledge and learn a variety of specialist vocabulary.
The practice of maintaining a sketchbook begins in Year 3, serving as a repository for ideas, experiments and reflections; fostering growth and development as an artist. Children complete observational drawings, collate ideas and research, plan designs and annotate their findings on a regular basis.
These skills form the backbone of artistic learning, providing a framework for the pupils to explore and express themselves creatively throughout their academic journey. They provide a strong foundation that prepares our pupils for the more advanced concepts and challenges they will encounter as they progress into secondary school.

PERSHORE COUNCIL ART COMPETITION
Orchard Primary took part in a local competition to design a card for King Charles, in celebration of his Coronation. Pupils from Reception to Year 6 submitted fantastic entries and, although the winner was chosen at another school, the judges were very impressed by our designs and awarded one of our talented Year 6 students the position of runner up. Here are some of the children's lovely designs...
