Safeguarding
Orchard Primary and Pre School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Our school believes that it is always unacceptable for a child to experience abuse of any kind. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and all staff recognise their role in ensuring safeguarding practices are followed at all times.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding we will:
- Provide staff and volunteers with guidance to follow when they suspect a child may be experiencing abuse or be at risk of harm.
- Have procedures in place to identify needs early and to make sure that appropriate support is put is place. We use CPOMS (Child Protection Online Monitoring and Safeguarding system; this is safeguarding and child protection software for schools) to share information appropriately within school as soon as practicable and to ensure that all appropriate staff remain informed and are vigilant in relation to safeguarding children.
- Maintain an environment in school where all children feel safe and able to share concerns and worries.
- Deliver a comprehensive PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economics) curriculum and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curriculum using the SCARF Programme (Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship). These programmes support the children's understanding of how to keep themselves safe. It also provides them with strategies to develop their resilience, as well as their awareness of their mental health and ways to keep this aspect of their lives healthy.
- Work co-operatively with other agencies to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
- Commit to regular safeguarding training at all levels - the DSL and Deputy DSL undergo training every two years. All other staff members receive training annually. New staff receive safeguarding training as part of their induction.
- Ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first - unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.
