Welcome to Year 5!

 

Our Class Teachers in Year 5 are Mrs Edwards (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) and Mrs White (Thursday, Friday) with the class being supported by Mrs Marks. 

 

The adults in Year 5 are available to chat and answer your questions before registration each morning and at the end of the school day. However if you feel you need more time to talk, please feel free to make an appointment- face to face or virtual meetings can be arranged by contacting the School Office.

Useful Information

Marvellous Me:

We will be continuing to use Marvellous Me to keep you informed of your child's learning and achievements in school. If you have any questions or would like help in accessing the app then please do not hesitate to ask.

 

Reading:

All children are expected to read regularly (at least 4 times a week) and keep an up to date record in their ‘School Planner'. Planners will be collected in every Wednesday to be checked by the teaching staff. check reading and homework on a daily basis. 

 

Spellings:

We will be using Oxford Owl's 'Get Spelling'  programme across KS2. Children will keep a personal log of spellings which they can take home to revise. There will be spelling test on Mondays.

 

Homework:

We will be setting the children weekly homework tasks to be completed throughout the week.. This will include a range of different activities to support your child's learning in school. Maths and SPAG homework will be given out and collected on Monday. Children are allocated a group and will be complete the homework for their group. Homework is also set on MyMaths and a hard copy will provided for children who do not have access online.

 

In addition children will receive a topic overview of extra activities they can complete linking to our topics that half term. House points will be given for these tasks and we would love to share your hard work with the rest of your class as and when this is completed. 

 

Maths Fluency Targets:

This half term Year 5 will be revisiting their times tables, up to 12 x 12. We really appreciate your support and encouragement with this as it is important that the children are revisiting these regularly at home as well as in school. PE:

This half term, our P.E lesson will be on a Wednesday . Please can we remind you that full P.E kits, with suitable footwear, should always be in school and can be kept on the children’s pegs. Please also ensure that all school uniform and P.E kits are clearly labelled.

 

Water Bottles:

All children need to bring a named water bottle to school each day please.

 

Music

Every Friday  the children will be having Cornet lessons. Cornets can be taken home to practice but need to be in school every Wednesday for the lesson. 

 

Internet Safety:

A big focus this year will be learning how to stay safe online. Important information and updates will be send where necessary and the following websites also have lots of information:

We use the child friendly search engine 'Kiddle' when carrying out research in school and recommend that the children do the same when they are online at home (link below).Please make sure you supervise your child while they are online and do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
