Welcome to Year 5!
Our Class Teacher in Year 5 is Ms Waterland and Mrs Groom and Mrs Kaur are the shared Year 5 and 6 Teaching Assistants this year.
We know things can seem a bit uncertain at the minute but we are here to support you where we can. Please ensure you have read the school's COVID-19 Guidance Handbook and feel free to arrange an appointment if you have any questions or wish to discuss your child's learning. Phone or virtual meetings (Teams or Zoom) can be arranged through the School Office. Take care, stay safe and keep smiling!
We are delighted to let you know that we will be continuing to use Marvellous Me to keep you informed of your child's learning and achievements in school. If you have any questions or would like help in accessing the app then please do not hesitate to ask.
All children are expected to read regularly (at least 4 times a week) and keep an up to date record in their ‘Homework Diary’. Homework diaries will be collected in every Monday and our reading chart will also be updated on this day.
Weekly spelling will be sent home every Monday and ‘checked’ (tested) the following Monday. Spelling sheets will be collected in and a record is also kept of their weekly score.
We love to see what research and topic homework you have been doing at home and make sure we celebrate and share the children's wonderful efforts on our ‘Homework Board’. We do however recognise that it is not always possible to complete homework each week and therefore our topic homework is an optional extra. We do still ask that your child practises their spellings along with their numeracy fluency target (times tables) each week as this will have a significant impact on their learning.
New: As well as the above, we will be setting the children a 10 minute challenge for them to complete each day at home. This will include a range of different activities and should be completed in their new '10 Minute Challenge' book which will be checked in school every day.
Maths Fluency Targets:
This half term Year 4 will be revisiting their times tables, up to 12 x 12. We really appreciate your support and encouragement with this as it is important that the children are practising regularly at home as well as in school.
Our PE slot will be on a Thursday this half term and we will also be continuing with the Daily Mile. Please can we remind you that full P.E kits with suitable footwear should always be in school and can be kept on the children’s pegs. Please ensure that all school uniform and P.E kits are clearly labelled.
All children need to bring a named water bottle to school each day please.
Book Bags and Library Days:
Year 5 need to bring a bag to school every day. Our library slot for this half term will be on a Monday morning. Children are allowed to choose up to three books to borrow.
A big focus this year will be learning how to stay safe online. The following websites have lots of great information:
We will also been using the child friendly search engine 'Kiddle' to carry out our own research in school. If your child would like to use the internet to research information at home I have copied a link to ‘Kiddle’ below. Please make sure you supervise your child while they are online and do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
The adults in Year 5 are available to chat and answer your questions before registration each morning. However, if you feel you need more time to talk then please feel free to make an appointment for after school (phone or virtual meetings via Teams or Zoom can be arranged by contacting the School Office).
Thank you for your support - The Year 5 Team.
