The last day of term is always a day of mixed emotions as we say goodbye to the children moving on to High School in September. It has been a pleasure to be part of their learning journey and watch them all grow in confidence during their time here. Good luck at High School Year 6, shine like the stars that you are and always remember to try your very best. We are proud of you all.
The whole school visited Pershore Abbey this morning to celebrate with our Year 6 class and their friends and families. Year 6 shared favourite memories of their time at Orchard Primary and their hopes for the future.
We are very grateful to all the parents who arranged the Year 6 party this afternoon after the original plans were cancelled due to the extreme heat earlier this week! The bouncy slide, photo booth and waffles and shakes were a huge hit and a lot of fun was had by everyone!
The emergency services have concerns that, in the continuing hot weather, young people may be out more in the community and therefore need to raise awareness about the dangers of open water swimming.
Advice for staying safe around water:
The Queen's Baton Relay will be coming through Pershore on the 22 July 2022. The relay will start in the High Street in Pershore and end at the Cherry Orchard junction and it is due to arrive at 2.31pm. There will be 4 Baton Bearers carrying the baton through the town which will take approximately 10 minutes. There will be face painting and drumming in Chapman Court which is situated outside Asda.
The children were very excited to receive their copy of the book "Queen Elizabeth: A Platinum Jubilee Celebration". This commemorative book was funded by the Dept for Education for all primary school children. We are sure the children will enjoy reading it and learning more about the Queen's reign.
Following discussions with its head teachers and in the light of the Met Office’s weather warning, Avonreach Academy Trust has taken the decision to close all of its schools on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July. You will be aware that for the first time temperatures of 40°C have been forecast in the UK and the Met Office has issued the first ever Red warning for exceptional heat, a warning that applies directly to Worcestershire. We appreciate the inconvenience that this causes parents and carers, but I am sure that you will understand the need to put the health and safety of our children and staff first in these unprecedented circumstances.
Yesterday we were treated to a concert where pianists from across the school played for friends, teachers and families. It was an opportunity for the children to show off the pieces they’ve been working on with Mr Komor and for them to gain experience of performing in front of a large audience. All the children played beautifully and we were very proud of them.
Our Year 5 class were invited by Pershore High School to watch their school production of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Play’. The KS3 students worked really hard to put together an exciting and energetic performance of the Roald Dahl classic at Number 8 in Pershore, their first live public performance since March 2020, and they were excited to welcome an audience!
