"Small enough to care, Big enough to inspire"
Find out about our latest news here!
We started off British Science Week with an assembly introducing the focus for this year which was Our Diverse Planet. We looked at the diversity of animals, habitats, materials and everyone around us.
Throughout the week each class had experiments and activities to complete in class linked to diversity:
Reception looked at bubbles; Year 1 looked at camouflage in butterflies then expanded it to other animals. Year 2 looked at habitats and made minibeast hotels and also made links with maths using bar charts and tally charts to chart their findings. Year 3 looked at taste and taste buds and how diverse we all are. Year 4 looked at life in the Antarctic and conducted an experiment to test which materials were the best insulator for an Antarctic coat. Year 5 investigated rust and why and how it occurs and looked into the ways of preventing rust.
We finished our Science Week with a whole school assembly where all the classes presented their findings from their experiments. The children really enjoyed the week and I think we have many future scientists at Orchard Primary!
We would like to reassure parents that we are continuing to monitor the situation and taking advice from the relevant professional bodies.
In the event that school is closed for a prolonged period of time, we will arrange for work to be set for the children. Please refer to the "Parents Tab" on the school website and also the new "Home Learning" tab on each Class Page.
We have also received a leaflet explaining the coronavirus to children which you may wish to share with your child. This leaflet can be found on the Parents Tab.
We would like to reassure you that we have been receiving daily updates from the Department for Education (DfE) and we are following their advice. All toilets are adequately stocked with soap and hand towels and we have talked to the children about the importance of hand washing and they are washing their hands regularly. In addition, we have alcohol-based sanitising gel available in all the classrooms and in the Reception area.
Should we have any confirmed cases we will see advice from NHS 111 and the Public Health Team on what we should do next.
We will update you when we receive any further information.
The children and staff celebrated World Book Day on 5 March by dressing for a bed-time story. Each class talked about their favourite stories and, during the day, were split into their House groups to share some of their favourite books.
Our Early Years classes celebrated by sharing their favourite Julia Donaldson stories and came to school dressed as popular characters from these books.
This week all the children have been taking part in an iSingPop project. They have enjoyed learning lots of new dance moves and songs and have learnt more about Christianity through the power of song. The children spent two days learning the songs with our tutor, Jessica, before taking part in whole school performance at Pershore Abbey on Wednesday afternoon and again in an evening performance.
Well done everyone; we have lots of lovely comments from friends and family in the audience!
